Throughout development and BETA, we’ve been having several discussions around pricing – one of the most difficult set of decisions to make when launching a new product.
We started out thinking we would have 5 or 6 plans to choose from but have recently culled that back to 3 plans. Part of why we could scale it back to 3 choices was a handy little notice saying, “Don’t see a plan big enough? Email us.”
We tried to create plans that would appeal to the 3 types of customer we think we will have. ‘Personal’ can be used either as a vanity app (‘hey, look how popular I am!’) or for basic tracking for a single cause. ‘Professional’ is our SMB plan and where we think most of our customers will be. ‘Business’ is suited for a large enterprise running a lot of different campaigns, or agencies who are running campaigns on behalf of their clients. We’re certainly interested in bigger deals beyond that, but this early in the game we figured it’s best to have a discussion with anyone that might be interested in something bigger.
The question remains… For our 3 target plans, how much should they cost? We’re not necessarily gunning to be the cheapest kid on the block – just a fair price for what we’re offering. However, there’s always price sensitivity.
Perhaps the better question than ‘How much should it cost’ would be, ‘What would you pay for this service?’
Of course in a perfect world we’d all like everything to be free. However, we need to eat.
If you were selling the SWIX service, how much would YOU charge?
